Nick Peterson Davis

Nick Peterson Davis grew up in a small town in Ohio. The big city near his home was Toledo and it was at the Toledo Museum of Fine Art that he developed his love of the masters. He connects most with artists such as Gauguin, Van Gogh and Monet.

For the past 25 years, Nick has trained in ceramics , sculpture and oil painting: for the majority of those years creating slab sculptural vessels and painting images of pottery. Nick calls Massachusetts College of Art his art school because he has worked closely with many of the instructors there.

More recently, Nick has been studying with Linda Reedy who works as an oil painter. As his mentor, she has inspired Nick to experiment in abstract realism, using a strong palette and brush stroke to convey balance and tension.

In this still life series, Nick's focus on the pear evokes a sense of romanticism and nostalgia in a contemporary format. The small size of the paintings invite the viewer to come close to the painting and to look deeply into the beautiful tones, shadow and light. Nick's bold imagery conveys poetic memories of times gone by and celebrates the mystery of nature.
